Mo. Senate to hold hearing into DNR e-coli report

By Marshall Griffin, KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – A State Senate committee will hold a hearing on the Missouri Department of Natural Resources' handling of a report on e-coli levels at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Brad Lager (R, Savannah) chairs the Senate Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection, Energy, and the Environment.

He said in a press release this afternoon that it is appropriate for the Senate to look into why the release of the report was delayed.

Fellow State Senator Kurt Schaefer (R, Columbia) is a former Deputy Director and General Counsel for the DNR.

"There are men and women at the department (of Natural Resource) that do a great job of protecting human health and the environment every day...but then you have a situation like this come up where it really jeopardizes the public's faith and trust in the department," Schaefer said.

Schaefer also said an exact date for a hearing hasn't been decided yet, but it would likely be held within a couple of months.
