Jefferson City, MO – U.S. postal officials have unveiled a new stamp showcasing Missouri's state flag.

It's the latest in the Flags of our Nation stamp series.

First Lady Georganne Nixon helped unveil the new stamp during a ceremony in the State Capitol.

"It may be difficult to believe, but Missouri went through almost 100 years of statehood without an official state flag...the flag we commemorate today on this stamp was designed in 1908," Mrs. Nixon said.

The stamp also features a riverboat, which the First Lady says symbolizes both the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.

The Missouri State Flag was designed by Marie Oliver of Cape Girardeau, and was officially adopted in 1913.
