St. Louis alderman killed in car crash

Members of the St. Louis Board of Alderman are mourning the loss of a colleague this morning. The Missouri Highway Patrol has confirmed that 54-year-old Gregory Carter, Alderman of the 27th ward has died in an early morning crash on eastbound 370 in St. Charles County.

Carter was killed after the truck he drove for work collided with a tractor-trailer. Carter has worked as a driver for UPS for 28 years. He was driving the UPS truck this morning when he apparently struck the rear of a tractor-trailer that was stopped to assist a previous accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

We will update this story via the link above as we know more.

Foreclosure rate in St. Louis up slightly

Though up slightly, St. Louis's foreclosure rate is still below the national average.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that about 1.7 percent of the region's homes with mortgages were threatened with foreclosure or bank possession in June. That's up one-tenth of a percent compared to June 2011, while the national average fell by a tenth of a percent. However, the foreclosure rate in St. Louis remains well below the 3.4 percent average for the nation.

Longtime St. Louis teacher charged with rape sodomy

Donald Ingerson of Ely, Minn., is jailed on $300,000 cash bond after being arrested and charged with rape and statutory sodomy Monday. A longtime St. Louis area teacher, Ingerson apparently turned himself in thinking that the statute of limitations had expired. He doesn't have an attorney.

St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch says Ingerson worked in five or six districts in the county from the 1960s through the 1990s. McCulloch says Ingerson called his office June 4 and met with prosecutors Monday, when he allegedly admitted to sexual contact with two high school girls - one in the 1970s and one in the mid-1990s.

McCulloch says the statute of limitations for rape and sodomy varies, but he's confident the alleged crimes can be prosecuted.
