Nation's Parks, Including Arch, Face Backlog of Repairs

By T. Weber, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Secretary Gale Norton toured a new $3 million building near the Arch that is the new home for crews who maintain the Arch and Old Courthouse grounds. Norton says the project is part of the President's goal to reduce a backlog of maintenance needs at US parks and historic sites.

Norton says her Department will still create national parks and historic sites, but only after those places meet stricter standards to assure they'll be maintained.

Officials say the Arch and Old Courthouse have almost $19 million in backlogged maintenance needs.
