Nixon Proposes Changes to No Call Law

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis – Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon is lending his support to legislation that would add more consumers to the state's popular No Call List.

The legislation would let business owners and cell phone users add their numbers to the list.

The bill will be filed next Tuesday in the state Senate, with a companion measure being prepared in the House.

Nixon said the legislation comes in response to complaints about privacy, and a recognition of the costs involved in owning a cell phone.

"When you get a call on a cell phone, not only is that call stunningly annoying, the cost of that call comes on your minutes," Nixon said. "They're spending your money; it's as if you get a bill for listening to a radio ad."

More than 1.5 million residential phone numbers are on the Missouri No Call List.
