St. Louis, MO – One of the three pairs of large escalators at Scottrade Center will be shut down for events this weekend while it's determined why it malfunctioned last night.
Thirteen people were injured while leaving the St. Louis Blues game at the arena. Five were treated for minor injuries at area hospitals and released.
Blues president Peter McLoughlin says they still don't know what caused a down escalator to suddenly speed up, throwing riders to the ground.
"The escalator company is working on the system as we speak to identify exactly what went wrong and we're awaiting their report," McLoughlin said. "We have six escalators in our building, all six of which were inspected in late August prior to the state or our hockey season and all were in good working order and given the green light."
McLoughlin says the other four escalators which connect the main level of the Scottrade Center to the mezzanine will be operating for tonight's Maxwell concert and Saturday's Blues game.
