St. Louis, MO – The National Rifle Association is hoping to convince a St. Louis judge to allow the new concealed weapons law to take effect.
The group filed a brief in the case Monday. On Thursday, Judge Steven Ohmer will decide whether to make permanent an injunction that's keeping the law off the books.
Ohmer issued a temporary restraining order earlier this month. A lawsuit claims the state's Constitution prohibits concealed weapons. The NRA disagrees, saying the document leaves it to the Legislature to decide.
At question is Article I, Section 23 of the Missouri Constitution. It reads: "That the right of every citizen to keep and bear arms in defense of his home, person and property, or when lawfully summoned in aid of the civil power, shall not be questioned; but this shall not justify the wearing of concealed weapons."
