O'Fallon, MO Stops Redevelopment Plan

By AP/KWMU

O' Fallon, MO – O'Fallon, Mo. city officials have put the brakes on a $200 million dollar redevelopment plan.

Mayor Paul Renaud said Monday night he's concerned over the size of the project and the amount of tax money to be used.

Developer Main Street Ventures was to unveil a revised plan at a packed meeting last night, but Renaud instead said a task force will consider other redevelopment options in a few months.

The plan was to include changes advocated by residents in the community about 37 miles northwest of St. Louis.

The mayor told the roughly 200 people at the meeting that the Board of Aldermen agreed with his decision. The developer sought more than $47 million in public assistance for infrastructure and park improvements.

Some residents were concerned about relocating businesses and homes.
