Officers Begin Wearing Mandatory Bullet-proof Vests

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO – All St. Louis police officers
are now required to wear bulletproof vests.

Police Chief Joe Mokwa ordered the vests to be worn at all times after a rash of police injuries, including the shooting of Officer Christina Fernandez at a traffic accident earlier this month.

Fernandez was wearing a protective vest but the bullet struck below the vest. It was the sixth reported attack on police officers in the last three months.

Before Monday, officers had the option of whether to wear bulletproof vests.
