St. Louis, MO – The Pope Wednesday morning named St. Louis Bishop Joseph Naumann to be the Co-Adjutor Archbishop of Kansas City Kansas.
That means Naumann will assist the current Archbishop there, James Keleher, until Keleher retires. Then Naumann will automatically become Archbishop.
The 54-year old Naumann is a St. Louis native, having graduated St. Louis Preparatory Seminary South in 1967 and Cardinal Glennon College in 1971. He was ordained in 1975 and became the St. Louis Archdiocese's Vicar General in 1994.
Traditionally, bishops hand in their resignation when they turn 75 (it's up to the Pope to accept the resignation). Kansas City's Archbishop Keleher will turn 73 in July.
