St. Louis, MO – New proposed federal air pollution control rules could have an impact on the St. Louis area's air quality. The Environmental Protection Agency wants to cap sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions for utility plants.
In Missouri, the EPA proposes adding Ste. Genevieve County to an area around St. Louis that would be considered a non-attainment area.
Under the proposal the state would have to devise a plan for reducing air pollution in Ste. Genevieve, St. Charles, Franklin, St. Louis and Jefferson counties, as well as the city of St. Louis. Missouri has until April 15th to respond to the EPA proposal.
