Proposed transportation budget could jeopardize Amtrak routes from St. Louis
A proposed federal transportation budget could eliminate Amtrak service between St. Louis and Kansas City.
A report on KMOX radio says the House Appropriations subcommittee supports eliminating the federal operating subsidy for trains that also get state funding. That includes all routes between St. Louis and Kansas City and three of five trains between St. Louis and Chicago.
An Amtrak spokesman says the budget as written would cut off funding October 1. He says ridership is up on the routes that would be eliminated.
