Region continues to swelter under heat wave

By Bill Raack, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Unseasonably hot, humid conditions continue in the St. Louis region, sending some to the hospital and others to cooling centers.

Temperatures area in the mid-90's again and heat indexes are over 100-degrees for the sixth straight day. That's unusual for this time of year.

Health officials are starting to treat some for heat-related illnesses -- 29 in the city of St. Louis alone. St. Louis County has opened three cooling centers, where people can go to get out of the heat between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.:

St. Vincent Community Center

7335 St. Charles Rock Road

Saint Louis, MO 63133

Queeny Park

550 Weidman Road

Ballwin, MO 63011

Kennedy Recreation Complex

6050 Wells Road

Saint Louis, MO 63128

The United Way has a list of cooling centers in the region here.
