Results from Tuesday's election

By Tom Weber, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – - Missouri State Representative Barb Fraser won a seat on the St. Louis County council Tuesday and in doing so kicked out of office long-time councilman Kurt Odenwald. The win shifts control of the Council from Republicans to Democrats.

- Republican Colleen Wasinger won the 3rd district Council race to replace the retiring Skip Mange; she beat Democrat Kathy Schweitzer.

- Charlie Dooley easily won a full term as St. Louis County Executive, gaining 67% of the vote to Republican Joe Passanise's 31% (and Libertarian Ted Brown's 2%).

- Republican Steve Ehlman won the race to replace Joe Ortwerth as St. Charles's County Executive.

- Jefferson County's Presiding Commissioner, Mark Mertens, was kicked out of office, losing to Democrat Chuck Banks.

In St. Charles County, Republican Nancy Matheny defeated Tim Schulte in County Council race to replace 3rd District councilman Bob Schnur.

- Greg Daly and Michael McMillan will be your new Revenue Collector and License Collector in the City.

LOCAL BALLOT ISSUES

- St. Louis City voters approved a sales tax increase for recreation centers. They also approved three of four proposed city charter changes, but rejected a question over fines.

- Kirkwood voters rejected a smoking ban.

- School questions passed in the Hazelwood, Lindbergh, Parkway and Pattonville and the special school district in St. Louis County.

- St. Charles City voters approved five ballot questions, including a $26 million bond issue for a recreation center.

- St. Peters voters also approved three bond issues there.

- A sales tax question in Wentzville narrowly lost.

- In the Metro-East, voters in the O'Fallon School District 90 approved a bond issue for a new school there.

MISSOURI STATEHOUSE

-Republicans, as expected, will keep control of the Missouri House and Senate, and most incumbents won re-election, but not all.

Jane Bogetto had been the first Democrat to win a House seat in the Kirkwood area in decades, but Republican Rick Stream narrowly won it back for the GOP Tuesday.

And Republican Bill Alter lost his state Senate seat in the 22nd district to former State Representative Ryan McKenna.

There were a handful of open seats in the Missouri House up for grabs:

- Democrat Ed Schieffer won a three-way race to replace Wayne Henke in the 11th district. Henke lost a second bid for State Senate Tuesday to Scott Rupp.

- Republican Doug Funderburk will replace Sherman Parker in the 12th district in St. Charles County.

- Democrat Sam Komo will take the seat in the 90th District, in Jefferson County, that Rick Johnson has held.

- Democrat Joseph Fallert won the 104th House seat to replace Representative Wes Wagner, who was term-limited and instead won a race for Jefferson County Clerk. In winning that seat, Wagner unseated the incumbent, Republican Janet McMillian, who was appointed to the job by Gov. Matt Blunt after the last clerk died.

CONGRESS

On the federal level, all St. Louis area Congressmen had an easy time winning re-election, including Collinsville Republican John Shimkus, who was caught up in the House page scandal when it broke a few weeks ago.
