Slay defends cost of bodyguards

By AP/St. Louis Public Radio

St. Louis – St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay is defending the $150,000 per year cost of the two bodyguards who protect him.

The money comes from the police budget, and Alderman Antonio French raised questions about the cost.

Slay says he's been confronted at events and has received comments that could be perceived as threats.

The mayor says there have been cuts. He used to have three bodyguards, and his predecessors had four.
