St. Louis Alderman Not Guilty of Public Urination

St. Louis, MO – St. Louis alderman Irene Smith has been acquitted of charges that she urinated on the floor of the aldermanic chamber during a meeting last year. According to broadcast reports, jurors took less than thirty minutes to find Smith not guily of public urination. Alderman Stephen Gregali had testified that Smith appeared to urinate in a wastebasket during a heated debate over redistricting in July of 2001. After her acquittal, Smith would not tell reporters what she did behind a makeshift screen that supporters held up around her during the incident.
