St. Louis City Leaders Meet with Charter Reform Group

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis – Ten St. Louis city officeholders met with a citizens group Wednesday that's studying ways to make city government more efficient.

The so-called Stakeholders Assembly is a broad-based group of city residents who've been meeting since September to talk about possible improvements to the city structure.

The group heard from executive and revenue collection officials about how their offices function.

St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay supports the review process.

"Our government has been going along in a certain direction for such a long time and there's never been this hard of a look at how we're doing business now and what we can do to do a better job for the people we serve," Slay said. "And that's why it's important, and that's why I'm behind it."

The group hopes to place proposed changes to the city charter on the November ballot.
