Clayton, MO – St. Louis County has appealed a federal court ruling that says a law limiting access to violent video games is unconstitutional.
The ordinance was approved in 2000 but never enacted because of lawsuits that were immediately filed. Earlier this month the three-judge panel said there's no justification for disqualifying video games from free speech protections.
The county maintains it's trying to protect children and now wants a higher court to overturn the ruling.
The county last week appealed the matter, asking the full Eighth U.S. Circuit court to review the three-judge panel's decision June third.
Officials with the video industry and retailers groups have applauded that ruling.
