St. Louis County Land Value Decreases

By KWMU

St. Louis, MO – The Post-Dispatch reports the assessed value of all the land in St. Louis County dropped this year. It's only the second drop in the last 50 years.

The assessed value this year is $18.736 billion, compared to $18.841 billion last year.

But people who live in the County might still pay more in property taxes. That's because the school districts, library boards, fire protection districts and city governments who show up on those bills can still raise their rates to off-set the lost land value.

Those local government bodies must set their rates by September 1.
