St. Louis Responds to Orange Level of Terror Alert

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – St. Louis Police Chief Joe Mokwa says there are no specific threats to the city, but he's keeping officers on standby because of the heightened federal alert.

When the last orange alert occurred in September, it cost the city a half million dollars in police overtime.

Mokwa says safety is a priority, but resources must be used sparingly.

Police have been in contact with the FBI, area hospitals and major hotels, but do not plan to block any roads.

Fire Chief Sherman George says his staff is prepared, but will continue to follow normal procedure.
