With the calendar turning to May, the outdoor concert season will be heading into full swing. While the big list, which is at the end of the article, is made up of free series, we’ll try to point out some other free musical events that St. Louisans may enjoy.
A new series starting this week is Clayton's May Musical Mondays.
Friday night as part of the reopening of the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, David Lang’s “where I am alone” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. As the website notes, this commissioned work will feature “a choir of local singers from St. Louis Children’s Choir, the St. Louis Symphony IN UNISON Chorus, and Webster University.” The Foundation is at 3716 Washington Boulevard in Grand Center. Also hosting receptions for new exhibits are the Kemper Museum at Washington University and the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis. Free shuttles will run between the university and Grand Center. The Pulitzer is hosting a variety of Press Play events this summer.
People might want to travel just a short way outside the urban core for free music, lovely settings and, of course, wine. On May 2, for example, Encore will play at the Chandler Hill Vineyards at Defiance, Schmitts & Grins will be at Blumenhof Winery in Dutzow and Jake’s Leg will bring its touch of the Grateful Dead to Mount Pleasant Estates Winery in Augusta.
