St. Louis, MO – St. Louis Public Schools superintendent Kelvin Adams is recommending 17 buildings be closed instead of the 29 suggested by a consultant.
On Thursday evening, Adams told the Special Administrative Board the facilities plan put together by MGT of America did not account for educational factors that he must consider.
"They only looked at facilities," Adams said. "Their responsibility was not to look at movement of students, test scores, enrollment over a five year period."
Adams recommends closing 14 buildings as early as June while launching enrollment campaigns for others.
Taken off the closure list were Cleveland High, McKinley Middle as well as Shenandoah and Shaw Elementary.
The SAB will announce its final decision on closures at its meeting March 12.
