Suspect dead inside Belleville home where officer shot during standoff

By AP/KWMU

Belleville, Ill. – Authorities have identified a man who apparently killed himself after a standoff with police in Belleville as Larry Sicka.

Police say the Belleville man was being sought in connection with the slayings of a Swansea couple. He was found dead Friday night in a Belleville home where an officer had been shot earlier.

Police say SWAT members entered the house about eight p.m. and found the suspect dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The suspect had apparently killed himself several hours earlier.

A stand-off with the man began after two officers were injured as they tried to execute a search warrant at the home.

Sergeant Jon Brough was shot and seriously injured.

Police have identified the victims found in Swansea Thursday as 79-year-old Henry Kahle and his wife, 69-year-old Delores Kahle.
