Talent to Bury Father; Cancels Some Campaigning

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO – The family of Missouri's GOP Senate hopeful Jim Talent is making funeral arrangements for Talent's father Milton, who died yesterday.

The 91-year old Navy veteran was a lawyer in St. Louis. He died yesterday after a brief illness.

Jim Talent has cancelled some campaign appearances until tomorrow. He faces Democratic Senator Jean Carnahan in a close contest that has garnered national attention for the effect it may have on party control in the U.S. Senate.

The race has brought a number of big-name politicians to Missouri. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle stumped for Carnahan yesterday, while former President George H.W. Bush will campaign for Talent tomorrow.

Current President George W. and First Lady Laura Bush have also campaigned in Missouri.
