Town Hall Meetings Are The Beginning Of Events In Ferguson This Week

In the aftermath of the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, attention has turned to Ferguson. Below are some events that are tied to the issues raised or that are centered in that community.

Civilian Review Meet Up at Blank Space

  • When: 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Sept. 24

  • About: “The purpose of this meeting is to educate the community on the Civilian Review Bill that is in front of the Board of Alderman.”

Ferguson Youth Initiative Youth Summit

  • When: 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Sept. 26
  • Where: Florissant Valley Community College - Student Center, 3400 Pershall  Rd., St Louis 63135
  • About: Ticket required. A summit planned and run by Ferguson youth. It will focus on the relationship between the youth population and the police in Ferguson, what changes need to be made, and what programs could be implemented to assist Ferguson youth.

Healthfest 2014: Abundant Living: A Focus On Health Holistically

  • When: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Sept. 27
  • Where: Hazelwood East High School, 11300 Dunn Road, St. Louis 63138
  • About: Healthfest 2014 will be hosted by the Shalom Church – City of Peace, and feature a number of health services and screenings for residents of the area.

Community Empowerment Summit

  • About: This event will feature an opening session on “Bridging the Gap: Local Police & Community,” workshops on knowing your rights, how to prepare and win in court, voter education and registration, and there will be on-site recruitment for law enforcement jobs.

#WithNormandy: A Concert for Peace & Unity

About: As a response to the events in Ferguson, a number of St. Louis organizations are joining together to present a free concert that will promote and support the Normandy High School’s Friends of Normandy Scholarship.
