Two Amtrak trains between KC and St. Louis remain canceled
The high water that's shut down two of Amtrak's Missouri River Runner trains for more than three weeks will keep those trains off the track until at least Sunday.
Amtrak had hoped last week that the Missouri River would recede enough to restart service by tomorrow, July 19th.
The westbound morning train from St. Louis and the eastbound afternoon train from Kansas City have been canceled since July 2. The morning eastbound and afternoon westbound River Runner trains are still operating, and Amtrak is offering chartered bus transportation between some of the stops served by the canceled trains.
The Missouri River is covering Union Pacific tracks west of Jefferson City, forcing freight trains to use a second Union Pacific line that's shared with the River Runner.
A spokesman says the agency has likely lost money because of the cancelations, but cannot estimate how much.
