Westfall Still Sees Casino in South County's Future

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis County Economic Council is starting from scratch with plans for a South County riverboat casino.

Wednesday, the County Port Authority ended an agreement with an investors' group to develop a gaming facility at the National Lead site in South County.

County Executive Buzz Westfall says the Economic Council will take new casino proposals next month.

"We're going back to where we were 10 years ago and simply putting out a
fresh request for proposals," Westfall said. "There is a gaming operator that's pushing for a license in Jefferson County. They're not going to do two. It makes much more sense to do it in South County," he added.

Westfall remains committed to the idea of a casino near the Jefferson Barracks Bridge in an effort to boost the area's economy.
