Emails: Secrecy sought in Ill. trooper crash case

The Illinois workers' compensation arbitrator assigned to the case of a state trooper involved in a fatal crash sought to keep a public hearing in the case secret.

That's according to emails obtained by the Belleville News-Democrat.

Jennifer Teague emailed her court reporter that parties planned to hold the hearing "on the sly with no press."

The date, time and place of the public hearing were changed with no notification.

Mo. House OKs changes to workers' compensation

Missouri House members have endorsed legislation designed to undo unexpected fallout from changes made six years ago to the state's workers' compensation system.

Lawmakers in 2005 approved changes to Missouri's workers' compensation system to establish tougher standards for an injured Missourian to qualify. Not all of the changes have gone as planned, and lawmakers this year are considering bills to tweak some of them.
