The St. Louis Public School Districtis adopting a more inclusive policy for charter schools.

Historically, the district has accused charters of siphoning away students and resources.

St. Louis Public Schools Superintendent Kelvin Adams says the time has to be more proactive in regard to charters.

"Increase our relationship with charters by creating some district-sponsored charters or working with charter organizations around facilities as long as they're tied to the district in some meaningful kind of way," Adams said.

Adams will outline his policy to the Special Advisory Board tomorrow.

By sponsoring charters directly Adams says the district can improve their accountability.

Additionally, Adam's says the district plans to expand early childhood education and provide more options for gender-specific schools.
