The German School Association (Deutscher Schulverein) of Greater St. Louis, Missouri is an independent nonprofit corporation providing superior German language instruction and exposure to German culture, customs and traditions for children and adults in a professional, collegial and friendly setting. Students learn in a supportive environment that nurtures curiosity and creativity and fosters global awareness, and provides an international and intercultural environment and a forum for American-German friendship. The goals of our education are multilingualism, tolerance, international understanding, and openness to the world.

Workshops for Writers—June 7, 2025. The St. Louis Writers Guild presents: Writing for the Non-Adult.
Join the St. Louis Writers Guild from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. CDT on Saturday, June 7, 2025, for a free workshop with author Kathryn Sullivan on writing for children, teens, and young adults.
Our presenter, Kathryn Sullivan, will join us via ZOOM for this FREE workshop. We will gather at The Lodge Des Peres, 1050 Des Peres Rd., St. Louis, MO, 63131 for the presentation, or you may attend the meeting online. To do so, follow the event link from the St. Louis Writers Guild website.
Writing for the Non-Adult
Do you want to write a story for young people but don’t know where to start? In this lively workshop Author Kathryn Sullivan will steer you in the right direction. We’ll consider what young people generally want out of a story as well as the differences between writing for children vs middle grade vs young adults. The presentation will also cover current and upcoming trends in the market and some of the best ways to promote your books for young people. Bring your questions for this Zoom workshop.
Bio:
Kathryn Sullivan writes science fiction and fantasy, including the middle-grade fantasy novels The Crystal Throne, Talking to Trees, and the short story collection Agents, Adepts & Apprentices. She has also written a picture book, Michael and The Elf. She is owned by a large cockatoo, who graciously allows her to write about other animals, as well as birdlike aliens. Kathryn lives in Winona, Minnesota, where the river bluffs along the Mississippi River double as cliffs on alien planets or the deep mysterious forests in a magical world.

Pollinators — such as bees, birds, butterflies, bats and insects — play a crucial role in the production of most fruits and vegetables. They also support healthy ecosystems that clean the air, stabilize soils and support wildlife. Studies show that pollinator populations are in decline because of a loss of feeding and nesting habitats, pollution and the misuse of pesticides. In this 6-week course, learn how to protect our pollinators, food supply, and agricultural economy with the Master Pollinator Steward program. Session topics include an insect overview, plant-pollinator relationships, honey bees, native bees and other pollinators, and pollinators in nature and agriculture. There will also be 3 optional field days in the St. Louis metro area, exact locations TBD. We will visit with beekeepers, go to a native pollinator habitat, and see on-farm practices that enhance pollinator biodiversity.

This course qualifies as Advanced Training for Extension Master Gardeners and Missouri Master Naturalists. This course has been certified for the following learning objectives for the Great Plains Master Beekeeping program: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.5, 1.10, 1.11, 3.6, and 3.14.

What Works is a free workshop sharing the common behaviors of artists with enduring practices. It speaks directly to artists’ concerns in building sustainable careers from the artist’s point of view. These behaviors have been identified by the thousands of artists of all disciplines participating in the Artist INC Live program over the past fifteen years.

The concepts shared in the What Works workshop are the foundation of Artist INC program. Artist INC St. Louis Artist Peer Facilitators Sukanya Mani and JerMarco Britton will explain the concepts and illustrate them with their personal and professional examples, leaving participating artists ready to apply them to their own practices.

The St. Louis String Collective is hosting its third annual St. Louis Strings Summit from 9AM - 4PM from Monday, June 23rd - Friday, June 27th with an optional daily jam session taking place from 4-5PM daily. Activities will be held at Kindred UCC (formerly Maplewood UCC) located at 2200 Bellevue Avenue, Maplewood, MO 63143. 

Student range in age from 12 through adult, and the daily schedule consists of a 9AM ensemble rehearsal, 10AM -elective #1, 11AM elective, #2, 12PM lunch, 1PM faculty concert, 2PM elective #3, 3PM ensemble rehearsal.

Past classes have consisted of subjects including: Learn a Swedish Tune, Old Time Fiddle Styles,  Intro to Music Theory, Let’s Go Blues, Cellos Rule the World, and How Do I Practice This Stuff?

Participants are required to bring their own lunch with them each day. A final concert with free admission will be given by student ensembles on Friday, June 27th at 3PM.

The camp enrollment fee is $375, and to ensure enrollment, a nonrefundable deposit of $75 is due at the time of initial registration. The remaining balance is to be paid on or before Monday, June 9th.
