Barry asks for recount in 1st District loss

By Bill Raack, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Democrat Joan Barry is asking for a recount in her loss to Republican Jim Lembke in Missouri's First Senatorial District in south St. Louis County.

Lembke beat Barry 44,219 to 44,143 -- less than one-half of one percent -- in the November 4 election. Candidates are allowed by law to ask for a recount when the vote differential is less than one percent.

St. Louis County's Board of Elections will have to conduct the recount -- and pay for it. It has 20 days to complete the recount.
