St. Louis, MO – Long-time KWMU host Mike Sampson died of a heart attack.

That's the final word this week from the St. Louis Medical Examiner's office.

Sampson's body was found last month in his Central West End apartment, a day after calling in sick and complaining of flu-like symptoms.

The City's Medical Examiner - Michael Graham - says Sampson's diabetes played a role in the heart attack.

Sampson was 53; the native Philadelphian moved to St. Louis in the 80s to work at KTVI (Channel 2) and had hosted KWMU's "St. Louis on the Air" and "Cityscape" for two years.

Permanent replacement hosts for those shows have not yet been named.
