Obama's campaign to open office in Missouri

By Maria Hickey, KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – One presidential candidate is ramping up his campaign in Missouri.

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama's campaign announced Tuesday that offices will soon open in St. Louis and Kansas City. The campaign also named Mike Dorsey state director in Missouri.

No presidential candidate has headquarters in Missouri yet.

The state may not get as much face time with candidates this primary season.

University of Missouri St. Louis political science professor David Robertson says as one of at least 20 states holding primaries on February 5 the bigger states will see the candidates more often.

"St. Louis will certainly get some ads, but I'd say the candidates will be racing around the country to the big states where they can get the biggest basket of delegates on that day," Robertson said.

California and New York are among the slew of states holding primaries what's being called Super Duper Tuesday.

Robertson says it will take about $100 million for candidates to stay competitive through those primaries.
