St. Louis – Mark Lamping is stepping down as president of the St. Louis Cardinals and heading east.

The New York Giants and Jets hired Lamping Thursday. He'll oversee the construction and operations of the $1.6 billion football stadium the teams are building in New Jersey.

Lamping has been the Cardinals' president since 1994. He oversaw the demolition of the old Busch Stadium and the construction of the new one.

Bill DeWitt III, 40, will become team president. He is the son of Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr.
