Satellite Stewart/Colbert rally planned at Gateway Arch

(Maria Altman, St. Louis Public Radio)

By Bill Raack, St. Louis Public Radio

ST. LOUIS –

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are holding their political rallies in Washington,D.C. this weekend, but supporters in St. Louis are getting in on the action.

Stewart, the host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," will hold the "Rally to Restore Sanity" on the National Mall, while Colbert, of "The Colbert Report," will host the "March to Keep Fear Alive."

Meanwhile, a satellite rally is set for Saturday on the steps of the Gateway Arch from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

St. Louis organizers say the rally will be politically neutral and will echo the theme of Stewart's and Colbert's events - to bridge the gap in polarization in the country.

It will feature musical performances and comedy acts but no campaign speeches.

Parts of the Washington rally will be broadcast at the St. Louis event.
