ST. LOUIS – Missouri Congressman William Lacy Clay said that he would support a freeze on home foreclosures.

Clay spoke Monday on St. Louis on the Air. He is a member of the House Financial Services Committee.

"Wouldn't it be better to work out something with the homeowner to keep those families in homes, even if you have to rent to them?" Clay said, "It doesn't help that family nor the bank if that home sits empty."

Democratic representative Debbie Wasserman Shultz of Florida proposed a freeze yesterday Sunday.

Clay also said Tea Party Candidates could help the Democrats come November in that they don't provide real policy alternatives.

"At this point they seem to want to shout the loudest but don't have any real genuine ideas," Clay said, "What, lower taxes? Then what are you going to pay for? What are our priorities?"

Clay is running against Republican Robyn Hamlin and Libertarian Julie Stone in Missouri's 1st District.

The district covers much of St. Louis city and north St. Louis County.
