Lane closures on Interstate 64 and the Poplar Street Bridge will cause backups for drivers in downtown this weekend.

If you're heading downtown this weekend, be patient - roadwork by the Missouri Department of Transportation is probably going to cause back-ups.

MoDOT crews will be closing all lanes of Interstate 64 from Jefferson through the Poplar Street Bridge at 3 a.m. Saturday, with the lanes re-opening Sunday afternoon around 3. An eastbound lane and  two westbound lanes of the Poplar Street Bridge will close at 5 a.m. Saturday and re-open around 5 p.m. Sunday.  All the lane closures are needed so crews can do earthquake retrofit work.

MoDOT is urging people to avoid the Poplar Stret Bridge if possible. Detours include I-255, and the Eads, McKinley or MLK bridges.

Also this weekend, trucks will once again be restricted from the Broadway exit (249C) on Interstate 70 from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday, during the Rams football game. The decision was one made jointly by MoDOT, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the city of St. Louis and the Rams.
